For people who have been in counseling and/or are counselors

Ta

I just read an article that the governor of Tennessee just passed a law that allows mental health counselors to refuse to treat patients based on the therapist's religious or personal beliefs.

I'm struggling with this one for a couple of reasons. I have an advanced degree in counseling and part of my coursework was learning how to effectively identify my own biases so I can treat all types of people effectively. Given the stigma around counseling and the difficulty in getting an effective therapist (not to mention the insurance issues) I feel like this could potentially discourage people from seeking help.

At the same time, as someone who has been in therapy, I don't know if I would want to work with or trust someone who harbors deep seated prejudice towards any parts of my identity. I don't know. What do you all think?
