Am I wrong for thinking that it is the biological parents responsibility to take the step child to the doctor and not the step parent?

My husband wanted me to take my step daughter to the doctor and completely blew up on me when I said I was uncomfortable taking her and that it is the biological parents responsibility (not in those exact words)

As a step parent I say that I disagree with you on this. If my husband were to ask me to take one of my step kids to the doctor I would do it. I took on responsibility for his kids when I married him. Also, if my ex husband gets married and his wife is the only person available to take our daughter to the doctor than I would expect her to. You cannot treat your step kids different than your biological kids. Plus my step mom is the one who took us to the doctor after my mom passed.

As soon as you married him you agreed to be part of his life as he agreed to be part of yours and with that said his child became yours in awayso take the child to the doctors

I have 2 kids that aren't biologically my SOs. He takes the kiddos to the drs if need be. I don't see why it's a problem. You are part of that child's life. BUT: if it makes you uncomfortable then I don't think it's ok with him blowing up at you.

If you're going to be with him and be in his child's life then you probably will have to have these responsibilities also. Think about how you made him feel, his daughter is his pride and joy and you just palmed her off like she's nothing to do with you. You're obviously important to him and he wants you to love her how he does also. He's not asking you to be her parent but you are her step parent and will have some responsibility. I'm sure he just wants you to have a good relationship and maybe he just needed a favour. If he was off doing nothing tho then it should've been him or her mum.

I think it takes someone with a big heart to treat a stepchild like their own child. We need more ppl like this in the world. You wouldn't like it if she was your biological child & your husband treated her like a step. I don't think it's fair on the children, they shouldn't be made to feel like a burden. I think you should see things from a different point of view and remember that if you do have children she will be a sister to them. I also believe that you should love her because she is a part of your husband and stuck in the middle of all of this.

My step dad calls me his daughter and has always treated me like his own kid. Also I am now the step parent to my husbands 6 year old daughter. I do anything and everything for her that I would do for my own kids. If she needs to go to the doctor and I'm the only one that can take her I wouldn't think twice. If you are uncomfortable with it talk to your SO about it and try and see why you are uncomfortable. How long have you been their step parent? I also had a talk with my husband pretty early on and asked if he wanted me to be a parent to his daughter or if he wanted to handle all of the patenting himself. Without hesitation he said he wanted me to parent wih him when she was with us. So maybe that is a talk you can have with your SO as well. That way you have clear boundaries set up around his kids. I understand the responsibilities that came with the marriage! I am committed to them girls 100% I did take her to the doctor and I am more of a mother to them than their own who is more interested in the child she has with her new husband. It's not like I neglected the situation but trying to get him to understand where I was coming from was harder than I expected. We have talked about it and decided we was both wrong in the situation! It's the power of communication that made this whole thing better. I wasn't asked to be judged like some of you have done I was just asking if I was completely wrong for feeling uncomfortable about taking her to the doctor. I have only been in these kids lives for about 4 months full time now. Before we got married we didn't see them much because their mother was being difficult about her ex husband being with another woman.

I would say take the child
 She is your stepdaughter and she is deserving of a mother figure even if she has a great mom. It's ok to be nervous or whatever but absolutely you should feel comfortable taking this child.

As a child of a step parent who treats me differently because I'm not his biological child, if you want to have a decent relationship with them then get involved with their life. A doctors appointment is not a big deal.
