Anyone ever personally used an au pair?

I'm considering it and would like to get some feedback. I'm on my 5th and all of my kids are school aged between 5 and 12. I'm considering this as an alternative to daycare for my newborn who is due Nov 10th.

I had one growing up too. Her home country was at war with genocide and all sorts of nasties going on in the 1990s. I distinctly remember her trying to get hold of her dad at one point because she hadn't heard from him in a week (he was OK). Really taught me how lucky I was/am. Valuable lesson for an 8yo! Never take what you've got for granted!!!

I had a few growing up, I loved my main one from NYC. She was so sweet! Also helped teach me more languages and cultural differences. 
 
 
One was from Colombia and could grab a bird right out of the air with her hands. Crazy.
