Crib vs play yard vs both

My baby is going to have her own room but I am a heavy sleeper. A lot of people just tell me to purchase a baby monitor, which I'm going to do anyways, but it will just be baby and I in the house. Have anyone used the play yard as the bed. It could save me a good $200 and don't some come with wheels to make it easier to maneuver around the house? If so or not what are suggestions?
