Why do women wear makeup and not men?

Men do wear makeup. My boyfriend is better at applying makeup than most women I've seen. He also loves nail polish and has a huge collection.

Makeup became popular because it was a way to enhance a woman's beauty to make her more attractive to the opposite sex. That being said some of the best make-up artists I know are men. They even wear it themselves. They use it to even out skin tone or cover blemishes and enhance their eyes.

️Makeup has been around forever. The Egyptians were the first known to use makeup and it was used by men and women.  Every other society and time used makeup by both until about 1300-1500 AD when it began to lean more towards women's use. Then the 19th century it was primarily geared towards the female population because that's when the world started focusing on how young or old women look, and the goal was to minimize and hide any aging.  It's always seemed like not as big of a deal if guys don't look "perfect" or if they look their age or not... That's probably why it's geared towards women now.  Plus, it's geared towards women because it's the male population wouldn't wear up, since it's not a part of modern day culture (aside from certain groups who have special traditions and whatnot obviously)

I don't know if it's the "official" origin, or why, but I know it was worn in ancient Egypt. Though I believe it was for the upper class. I think it was for beauty but beyond that.. Maybe something to do with the sun so it wouldn't shine in their eyes so bad? Gods, perhaps?

I have no idea what the actual origin is but some men do wear makeup. Some women don't.
