How did your dog do with newborn?

Question

So I have 2 small dogs, Maltese and maltipoo. Both are still young and have TONS of energy, other than that..they are great dogs! Not mean what so ever, crate trained and know different commands. I just want to know if anybody else had experience with bringing a baby into a home with hyper dogs. Did the dogs know when to calm down? I'm afraid my dogs will just keep playing and jump all over the place when I'm trying to relax and let the baby sleep

I had 3 pit bulls, they were wonderful to my baby, the female started producing milk lol, they constantly laid around her and made sure she was doing OK.

I had a jack Russell and a husky Sheppard when I was pregnant with my son and a month before my due date my husband came home with a bull mastiff puppy that was bigger than my husky! Everyone thought Dozer would be a problem with a baby given the circumstances to which my hubby ended up with him. Turns out that big scary dog everyone was worried about loved that baby more than anything! He was fine with the baby. Laid beside whatever he was in. And would come find me if something wasn't right. Still sleeps with my boy in the bed now. He's protective of him and whines when he's hurt. Best dog ever!

I have 2 a standard size pomeranian and a Yorkie and I figure it shouldn't take long for baby to get used to barks and what not you don't wanna try to keep everything quiet for baby cause then everything will wake them my aunt could run the vacuum in the same room as her babies and they never woke once and as for play time maybe keep puppies in another room if your doing floor time for awhile until baby can move around on his or her own

Dogs are awesome for kids and great companions! I also have a dog and was worried about the same thing and my vet gave me the Following advice which I was so appreciative of her honesty Bc as a vet she loves animals but still told me:
Don't ever put your guard down when it comes to your baby and your dog. Never EVER SAY my dog is so good and behaved and would
Never hurt a fly. A dog is still an animal with instincts and they can reacted totally unexpectantly. Keep that in mind and everything will be smooth!

We had a 2 month old husky when my daughter was born and she got excited and scratched her a few times on accident but she slept by her for every nap and they are best friends to this day. They are both 2 years old and follow each other every where and nap with each other. It takes time for them to know what they can and can't do but I love animals and so does my daughter

I have a chihuahua that hates anyone new and especially little kids running around. She's also hyper and gets excited very easily. Everyone except me was nervous for when I would bring my baby home (I had a feeling she'd be fine) and she was so sweet and gentle towards him! He's 10 months now and walking, banging toys, crawling everywhere and she doesn't even mind him. She's quick so if he tries to reach out for her she'll get out of his way but she takes food from his hands if he tries to feed her and plays tug of war, fetch, everything. She's never jumped on him, scratched him, bitten him, growled or anything. I think since she's been around him since he was a newborn and couldn't move and she's watched him grow/learn new things she's just so used to him and had time to get used to all of his habits. He grabbed her ear once and she yelped but two seconds later she was back to playing with him, just learned to move out of his reach if he tries to grab her. Hopefully yours have a great relationship, too!

My dog gets really excited very easily. When we first brought the baby home she did act strange and it took her a little bit to realize that she wasn't the baby anymore.  She's also extremly loud and barks allllll the time. This hasn't really stopped. And it wakes the baby up only if she hasn't gone into a deep sleep yet. But from what the Drs told me was that she will get used to it. I do shhhhhh my dog all the time and took the chair away from the front window to try to get get to chill out on the barking..

I have had bigger dogs (boxer, border collie) and smaller dogs (daschaund) and they all did great. The only concern was they became more protective over me, the baby and our home. I would have to put them in their kennels, or outside sometimes when new or unfamiliar people came over at times. However we were able to work threw it with positive reinforcement training. Good luck!
