5 days of Spotting after period. Please help!

I have been spotting light pink/red blood for 5 days after my period ended. It is like a light period, not quite spotting but I defiantly need to use a tampon. This has NEVER happened to me before and I'm a little freaked out. I called my Doctors office and I was told it was normal. Maybe so but not for me. I've never had anything like this before. Have any of you? Please any answers or info would be appreciated. I'm a little anxious about this.
