1st Ivf consultation on Friday

Nikki
Hey ladies,
We have our first consultation on Monday. We are candidates for IVF because we've Tried for a year and then went in and found out we both carry the cystic fibrosis gene. What should I expect? I'm so scared to begin this process. How should I feel as a women? I'm so sad but maybe it's a blessing. Any kind words/thoughts/inspiration?

I am 35 weeks and 2 days at age 39 with my lil girl. I would do IVF all over again in a heartbeat. It's not bad at all. I had a nurse come to the house for 50 bucks to show me my shots which you put into the fat of your stomach. I was so proud of myself being able to do it on my own. The shots make your ovaries a little angry but it's worth it. Be ready to live at the Drs office. Your partner will have to give a sample. Egg retrieval is nothing, since you are knocked out. Transfer is easy too! Look up grades of blastocyst for transfer. I had an a and b put in and  ot pregnant with twins. One stopped growing at 9 weeks. Lil girl is now good...had amino done. A was a boy and carried a downs chromosome. I did IVF with ICSI. That's where they put the sperm right into the egg and crush the tail of it. IVF can be stressful but I feel only because you don't know the outcome and want it to work so bad for all the work. Glad you are going for it!!!

My husband was my amazing- making sure we had enough meds and doing all the shots. The process went so fast, as compared to the LONG battle of infertility. We put into two embryos and are currently 13 weeks with one, a boy!

It can definitely be overwhelming! There are so many different medications options. We did a few medicated/timed relations cycles and then our doctor bumped us to IVF (bypassed IUI). We did clomid - which totally made me have mood swings but the pills are totally nbd. Then we started with follistim injectable and then switched to gonal-F. These are the same medication just different brands and our insurance totally covers gonal and wants like $2000 for follistim. They're in pens that are easy to use and the needles are tiny and short!Every cycle involved ovidrell as the trigger shot which is a pre-loaded syringe. Not gonna lie, this one stung for me but it's just once per cycle so it's managable. For our IVF cycle cetrotide was added in. This injection stops natural ovulation. Had to mix up the medication in a vial and change needles. I put an ice pack on my stomach for 5-10 mins before doing this one and it helped a lot. All of the cycles involved multiple doctor appointments with bloodwork and ultrasounds - honestly just got used to all that. Our IVF cycle (we just did egg retrieval which wasn't so bad) has brought on a lot of other oral meds (antibiotics, steroids, baby aspirin, estrogen supplements) and my doctor prefers the vaginal suppository progesterone called Crinone which is nice because it's one less injection! My biggest advice is to get a small pocket notebook to write down all of your questions as they pop up, keep track of apts and instructions and med changes so that you have it all in one place!Sorry this is super long! Hope that it's helpful! Good luck!
