Tampons as a teen

I want to use tampons but my mom wont let me. She told me once that she wanted to be close to me, and that I could tell her anything. But when I told her I was using a tampon. She got mad and told me to take it out. Whats the big deal?!? Im 16 btw and im about to be 17 on the 13th
