Which type of car seat?

There are two types of car seat suitable for newborns (photos below). Despite the fact that the one is portable, do you think the portable one is better for the first months to protect their spine, or they are the same except portability?

Every carseat has to pass certain safety regulations before being sold. So which ever one you choose, will be safw for your baby. Personally, I always to the portable one for the first 6-12months because it is so much easier. Can you imagine having to get a floppy little newborn in and out of a carseat thats stuck in the car? Lol Not to mention, what would you do with the newborn after taking them out of the carseat? Cant put em in a stroller yet!

We opted for the portable one in my car and convertible one in hubby's. We plan to have more kids, so we'll hopefully get enough use out of the portable one to justify it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong: can't the portable infant ones be more easily out onto a stroller base? Or put into a shopping cart? The ease of adding wheels and not waking a sleeping baby seems great to me!

Get two different car seats that you like and put one in your car and one in the fathers car. That way you can have both and don't have to choose

I tried out an infant car seat with a six month old (the portable kind) and I though it was awful. So for my baby I just got the convertible. It's way easier for me to deal with.

They are both the same in terms on safety. I took a car seat safety course and found out this information. In fact, it's best to get the one that isn't portable simply because the baby will grow out of it very soon. So it makes sense to get the car seat that you can keep past infancy 😊

All car seats have regulations, with that said though leaving a baby in a car seat for a long period of time is damaging to their spine, never let your baby just chill and sleep in one

I'm doing the keyfit30 because I live in nyc and am always on the go. I just don't want to have to move baby all the time in and out of the car seat. So I did the keyfit30 and the bravo travel system. Then after he grows out of it, I'll get the Chicco nextfit

I got a convertible because portable ones in Australia are like 500 bucks. I have a pram that has a bassinet for when Bub is little. The car seat I got changes and adjusts so much and for newborns it looks so bloody comfy! Plus it tilts when rearward facing anyway and it was bloody expensive

The portable one is SSOOO convenient. For money's sake my husband and I wanted to get the convertible one but changed our mind. We have the car seat base installed so when we leave its just clicking in and out. Stoping into the store is quick and easy and baby stays asleep. Also super easy to pop into our stroller from the travel system. We plan on getting the convertible later on and keeping the carrier for our next baby (about two years from now).
