EBF baby gassy? No bowel movement.

My 6 week old is EBF. She is super fussy and gassy. Her gas smells awful as well.  Her last bowel movement was 6 days ago and the one before that was 9 days. Is this normal? Anything I can do for her. I give her gas drops. Rub her tummy. She wont take a pacifier. What's causing this?

It's common for ebf babies goes several days with out a BM since breast milk it easily absorbed for nutrients there's not a lot of waste that needs to be expelled. The gas and smell could be from something you ate that's not agreeing with her. Keep a food diary and see how adding or eliminating a food helps her any.

From what I've read, and what our original pediatrician told us: it's not a problem for an ebf baby to go up to 10 days without a bm. It's only a cause for concern if the baby is clearly uncomfortable, in pain, straining (and failing) to pass a bm, etc... Otherwise 10 days can be considered healthy. Over 10 days, call a doc :)

My son is 4 months ebf and he takes daily probiotic drops and has never gone more than 36 hours without pooping. Just so you have his stats! We also do the bicycle stretches at least twice a day for him and I rub his tummy before bed :)
