What does cm mean on the ultrasound?

On my uptrasound it says 10.1 cm, is that the size of the baby?

Wow, a lot of commenters guessing without knowing. I actually researched it yesterday and ended up studying the manual for the machine that was used at my scan. (I'm a huge nerd! :-D)

The 10.1 cm is the depth of the scan, so if your picture shows all of the beam (isn't zoomed in so the bottom is cut off), it's more or less the distance from the top of the picture to the bottom. For some reason they don't tell you, but they really should, since it's basically a size guide to your scan. If you wanted to say compare with another pregnant woman for size, you would first have to check that her scan had the same number of cm's, or the scale wouldn't be the same.

So many people on the internet have been asking this question, and almost everywhere the answers have been a mixture of wild guesses and "that's just technical, don't worry about it". Well, I can't settle for that! :-D

If it's at the top of the scan with letters after it, Dr told me it's the depth of the scan. The CRL has been told to me verbally

It is not the size of tour baby. 10 cm is way too big for 12w. My 7w ultrasound said 5.4 cm and he was actually like 1.2 centimeters. Maybe is the uterus or some other thing but not the baby.

Centimeters, thats usually how long from crown to bottom.

It'll probably be the crown rump length of the baby unless it's accompanied by other details (they do other measurements but there would usually be some wording to say what the measurements relate to).
