Does anyone know about WIC breast pumps?

Question

With WIC, do they rent you out a pump only if your baby stays back in the NICU? Are there any requirements? I already get monthly assistance with them. Thanks in advance :)

I went in to WIC immediately after leaving the hospital and they handed me a pump, showed me how to clean it, and sent me on my way. I brought it back about 4 months later when I could no longer breast feed.

My insurance covered my Mandela pump. If you are in NY your insurance should cover a breath pump.

I don't know if it's different from state to state but here they have 3 different 'types' of pumps. A single manual, the 'working mom' pump, & hospital grade.  Your situation determines which you receive. The single handheld manual pump is supposed to be for stay at home moms and is kept after use, the working mom pump is given to moms returning to work and they keep that pump, and the hospital grade is given out but must be returned after use- they send them off to be cleaned and reuse them.

Whichever you are given is free in Mississippi.

Here they also give you adapters for hooking up in your car, nipple shields, nipple cream, etc.

It varies by state mine said you get a manual pump if you want formula and if you're strictly breastfeeding after 2-4 weeks you can get a electric pump to keep

Under the new affordable care act aka Obama care, every insurance company has to provide you with a breast pump. Some insurance companies pay the whole amount and other only pay so much. There's a couple different sites you can go through and they deal with all the paperwork. Just go on google and search "breast pump through insurance" and call each company.

When I went wic said I had to work at least 24 hrs a week to get a electric pump but the manual pump was free even if I'm not working. I only work 18 hrs so I had to stick to manual it was tiring for sure but still got the job done.

I would ask your office. Some smaller offices only have a certain number of pumps so they might not have any to give you.

I'm in Tennessee and my friend got one through her insurance to and she is on WIC. I'm going to try and get one also.
