What does lightening feel like?

I have a lot of UTI type or pressure today.. Feeling like I may pee my pants at any second.. And some sharp pains in my crotch.. Like in my vagina.. And also some cramps.. Is this progress? Or just misery? Lol.

Been feeling that for the past week (37w6d) and went to midwife today to find out I am 3 cms dilated! So I am assuming the electrical shock feeling in my cervix was actually dilation! He is also at -1 station so that would explain why I can take deeper breaths and why my appetite has increased as well (more room from baby dropping). It was something that happened over about three days BC I got an ultrasound to confirm his position on Friday and he was head down but not engaged yet and today my midwife actually felt his skull bones (fontanelle) when she did the membrane sweep and said he has definitely dropped.

I would say that's progress! I felt those things after my little guy dropped.

I asked my doctor about that yesterday, she told me it's the babys head pushing down on my cervix. It's supposed to help thin you out and dilate you. Same thing with any menstrual like cramps she said that's the baby trying to move lower. Sometimes to me it feels like he's trying to grind his way out. Must be working though I am 60% effaced and 3cm dilated! That's without me trying to do anything like bounce on a balance ball and stuff. Though since things are moving along for me I did get myself a balance ball to help move things along! Haha

Ive been in that boat for 3 days and its been misery. Only 1cm dilated :(
