Why such a long wait for my Dr. Appt?

We found out Thurs, Nov. 13th we are expecting. I called first thing Friday morning to make an appt. with the Dr. They made my appt. for Dec. 19th! I'm around 4 weeks. Is that normal?

I found out Oct. 25 and my first appointment is on the 5th of December! The wait is awful!!!

I found out I was pregnant last week and they couldn't get me in until December 16th. I don't have periods so I have NO clue how far along I am at all. So I called and asked very politely if they could get me in sooner or if anybody canceled to call me. Sure enough my appointment is today!

Yup, pretty normal. Usually once they've confirmed the pregnancy with bloodwork they will schedule the ultrasound for when you are between 8-12 weeks. Earlier than that and like others said there isn't much to see. You can see the gestational sac and yolk sac but that's basically it. Once baby is 8 weeks or older you can more easily detect a heart beat and see the baby forming and possibly moving depending on how far along you are. It's so tough to wait that long! Just make sure to call your doc if you experience any heavy cramping or spotting/bleeding and in the meantime try to eat well (stay away from all the stuff they tell you not to eat/drink while you are pregnant) and take at least 400mg of folic acid a day and give your body as much of a rest/break as possible. Don't lift heavy things or do exercises that could cause you to fall (ex: skiing). Good luck and congrats! :)

We've had smaller appointments along the way but we didn't meet with the ob until I was 11w. It all depends on how your provider works things. Also there really isn't much to see before then. If you get really sick before then, just call for an earlier appt. good luck!

Yes that's normal, they won't usually see you till you are around 12 weeks unless you ha e had problems before in previous pregnancies or health conditions x

Because the possibility of miscarriage is much higher in early pregnancy. Plus, your doc will do blood work and probably a sono, the further you are the better chance you'll have of seeing the heartbeat. Good luck!

Yeah I didn't get my first appointment till 10 weeks the waiting sucks but at least you'll have your bloods and scan soon after :-)
