Skipping my period

I've been on birth control for 2 years, and when I originally got it, my doctor okayed me to skip my period if I wanted. I decided to skip my period in March, and everything seemed to go well. Then I got cramps for 2-3 weeks after my period in April, but had a normal period this month. Now, my period ended a couple days ago and I'm continuing to spot, and I never spot after my period ends. Is it from skipping my period?
