What are your views on Suboxone?

Do you think people abuse it? Do you think it's a good thing? Why is the withdrawal of it so powerful?

As someone who takes suboxone I think that with any drug there's the possibly of abuse. It is extremely frustrating that people like me who take my medication as prescribed get put into a group who just go to these drs to get the medication to just sell or abuse. That I know of suboxone drs are only aloud to have a certain amount of patients and it really pisses me off when those who don't want to get clean or really need the medicine are taking up slots for those who really want the help.

Methadone used to be the preferred drug to help heroin users "detox safely". But it has become more synonymous with heroin than anything, so they created Suboxone. Same idea, different name.

The drug helps people in pain get the help they need without becoming addicted like you would with other drugs. It also helps drug users stop using street drugs and lowers overdoses. In the long run it is more good than bad. But yes, some people still abuse it. My dad has had back surgery, neck surgery, his legs are in horrible condition after being ran over by a car on his bike. He is on disability and they help pay for his Suboxones. They drug test him randomly to make sure that's the only thing he takes. It has helped him and is better than pain pills. Not everyone uses them accordingly and that always screws up others.

As someone who works in the addiction field I have mixed feelings on it. I don't think you should take anything forever and eventually you need to become educated on your triggers and have the power to say no without taking the medication. (I don't believe it's a disease).
I have known lots of people who continue to use then take suboxone when they need to go to work/can't find opiates.
But nothing pisses me off more than women who chose to get pregnant while they are on this or methadone. The baby does withdrawal, there are consequences, and your baby will be monitored after birth for 5 days and drug tested (if the provider is aware you're on suboxone or the baby shows symptoms)

Any type of medication can have addictive qualities.

Where I live fentynol, ketamine (horse tranquilizer known as "special k") and T3 are the drugs of choice.

My SO's medication thankfully, now that the chemical make up has been changed it isn't as addictive as it was. Most people addicted were predispostioned to addiction.

My migraine medication is highly addictive, thankfully for me I am not predispostioned for addiction.

I truthfully have never taken the one you have mentioned but my doctor likely wouldn't give it to me because my father was addicted to oxy.

Where I live, H and Subs are the drugs of choice. People take van loads to Jersey every month to get scripts from doctors who don't care, and they sell them for twenty a piece. They'll keep thirty for themselves, and mix with benzos to get a "better" high. I know a few people who take it as prescribed, I know many more who abuse it.

I'm on Suboxone and have been for several years now. My doctor and I have no plans for me to stop taking it. There are a few reasons for this, but the main reason is that too many people tend to relapse after stopping it AND I need a measure of pain control. 
I think it's a wonderful drug and it needs to be more widely available for doctors to prescribe. I don't feel it's very addicting after you've been on it for awhile, and it's a way better choice compared to methadone.

I'm not a fan at all. To me, it's just a 'legal' way of using. I feel like it's just an unnecessary crutch and doesn't help people get clean.

Pharmacy student here... I've worked in a pharmacy since I was in high school. People are extremely addicted to this stuff. They don't take it as it is prescribed and I've met many that are still using street drugs along with it. It is the same thing just regulated and in a smaller dose. Anything that is considered a controlled substance is that way because it has addictive chemicals in it. In my opinion, it isn't a solution to the problem. It's just a way for the government to make money off of addicts and keep tabs on them. It's just like replacing a regular Mt. Dew with a diet Mt. Dew. The diet drink might have less suger but it still isn't good for you!
