I think 14 is plenty old enough to understand the dangers and consequences of such actions.

I do not agree for essentially ending someone's life for an accident. Yes, someone was killed, but I think the boy who threw the rock should go to juvenile detention if anything at all. I think hard core jail is too much because it was a tragic accident. People make mistakes (sometimes staggeringly stupid ones) and I don't think someone who makes a mistake deserves the same cell block as a viscous murderer with the intention to inflict harm.

don't be sorry... I figured it probably differs depending on what state/country but where I live they can charge a child as an adult if the crime is severe enough or if they keep getting in trouble.

Sorry Megan, I should have added that doesn't happen in Melbourne where this occurred. The kids wouldn't have been tried as adults

Megan, the same happens where I live.

I think there should be a punishment, but neither of the boys intended to kill someone and they were too young to be able to look ahead and understand what their actions may cause, so I believe prison is too harsh of a punishment.

Prison/jail/juvenile detention- you know what I mean.

We don't have a death penalty in Australia. They should be jail or something similar for sure. It's been in the news a few times recently about young boys doing this, and they ran away if the driver stops to get out. It's incredibly dangerous and 12 isn't young. They know right from wrong then, they are just being little shits and honestly deserve what the court gives them.

Guilty..but they should not have a charge that will affect them for the rest of their life such as getting a good education and job.Yes there should be consequences like a detention program where respect is taught, life morals etc. not a program to abuse them.I have younger brothers and they are smart but don't think things through always. They are young and will do stupid things..just like us adults. If I were the killed woman, I would want justice but not taking away the life of a young boy to where is spending life or half his life in prison for something he did at 12.

I'm not saying they should die (like no death penalty) but they should take responsibility for their actions

14 years old is plenty old enough to know right from wrong. I don't think they should have the death penalty or anything like that, but there definitely should be consequences. They took someone's life. Just because they're young does not mean they shouldn't be held responsible for their actions.

Mostly annoyed by the poor comma placement in the second-to-last sentence, but agree that 14 is plenty old enough to know better.
