Baby Shower Etiquette?

My husband and I are expecting baby #4 around Thanksgiving and I've had several people mention a baby shower. Our children are boy (9), boy (8), and girl (6). Needless to say, we have very little left for a baby other than clothes I've saved. Now, I'm not complaining one bit. We are fully prepared and willing to buy every last thing for our new little bundle but people are saying it's totally okay to have a shower. I just don't really feel comfortable doing so. Like hey, we chose to get pregnant but don't have anything left so please help us.

What do you guys think?

I say no shower since you already have children. Have a BBQ celebration or something but expecting or even asking for gifts would be so tacky to me. Just a personal opinion, obviously you can do whatever you feel is best ☺

If you look it up now, it is the baby you are showering, not the mom. So if you family and friends want to throw you a shower, the. Let them!  I'm expecting our 2nd and that is exactly what I told my mom and sister!

I only have one other child, a daughter that will soon be 8, and we are having a shower for this one. My mom is going to put it together for us. I have absolutely nothing left from my daughter and it's my boyfriend's first child and one of the first grandchildren for his family. I don't see a problem with it.

Let them their you one if they want.  My sister did a "baby sprinkle"with her last and it was just smaller scale.

My family is huge on baby showers there are 13 grandkids amongst my siblings! I say if some one is willing to throw one for you then do it!

We attend a large church with a lot of young families, so this comes up a lot for us. The policy our church has is that a church-sponsored shower for a first child or a child after a large age gap is the whole shebang. For second, thirds, etc. that are close in age, they host a diaper and wipes shower. Still helping the new parents out and celebrating every baby, but much lower key.

My sister wants to throw a shower for my second baby, so I'll let her. Probably just be a diaper shower though.

Every single child is a blessing, not just the first! And you will have many family and friends (especially because of the age gap) who would love to shower the baby (not the mom) with gifts as well as come together as a way to celebrate.

I say have it and those who want to be there will. Forget etiquette as no one is being forced, they love you and would want to be there. Congratulations by the way

I'm on #4 and if someone want to throw me a baby shower, I'm going to let them. A sprinkle, baby shower, get together or whatever else people call it these days is true same thing to me. If people feel a certain type of way then they have a choice not to come. I didn't ask for a baby shower not care if I have one because my mind is already made up to buy everything but I'm having a girl after 3 boys and it's my SO first child and his mom has been talking about a baby shower since I find out..

I've never been to a shower someone threw for themselves, it's just not the norm here. But having showers for 2nd and so on children are common especially if they aren't close in age. If it were me I'd be open to someone putting a shower on for me, but I wouldn't organize one myself. I have a 3 year old and I'm not expecting a second shower... If this one is a boy (I have a girl) I wouldn't be surprised to have a shower. I've been making a registry for myself and reccomend other people do the same because you get discounts just for buying things off your own registry at a lot of places and if you do have a shower it would be a handy to have one already started.

If you have other children and the new baby is either a different gender or has a decent age gap between its siblings (5 yrs) then it's perfectly fine to have a shower or sprinkler. It's looked down on when someone has a baby shower when their oldest is 1-2yrs. If that's the case then you can certainly have a party celebrating the baby once their here but to have a shower or sprinkle is just gift grabby as they literally mean to "shower the mom w gifts".
