I know a few people who swear by this rule. If they've got a new boyfriend (or girlfriend, as the case may be), they hold off on sex until they both get the clean bill of health. But I always thought it'd be an awkward conversation to have. Though I suppose that if you're afraid of an awkward conversation, you probably shouldn't be having sex anyway...and, if your prospective partner couldn't deal with that, they probably aren't very good SO material anyway.
