Inducing?!

What is so bad about getting induced?! I've never been induced but keep reading people saying its bad . Just wondering opinions on it?!

Nothing at all I was induce on Wednesday! I came in at 5cm at 38 weeks 3 days I came to the hospital at 8am got Pitocin at 10am had my son at 5:27pm I pushed for a hour if that !!! He's my first child so for our first delivery he made it easy and pain free I got my epidural at 9 am and when I was checked at 230 I was 6cm then at 330 I was at 9 I think maybe if your not dialated at all you may have a harder labor it just depends everyone's body's handle medicine different. I've always heard pitocin is basically the devil, but I was induced with this baby and it wasn't bad at all. The contractions weren't any worse than my natural labor with my first child, and I delivered vaginally without an epidural just fine. And actually, multiple studies have shown that that if you're induced at 39 weeks or later and it was a healthy pregnancy, you're 12% LESS likely to end up with a cesarean than someone who goes into labor naturally.

It's not bad.  And please don't get your info from a one-sided Netflix documentary.  I've seen that movie and it's so biased.  Induction is a product of great achievements in modern medicine! It can even be very medically necessary.  Pitocin is safe, does not affect your child, and has no higher levels of risk of things going wrong than any other method of birth including "natural" (I put that in quotes because I think some people have commandeered that term when all births are actually natural because we are humans birthing).  All births carry a risk of and section too.  I would suggest really researching if you have questions--there are lots of reputable medical websites with info.  I was induced with my son and will be next week with my daughter too if she doesn't come on her own.  I trust the process and it actually can make things go quicker if you're already slightly effaced.  It's a myth that it makes for a longer harder labor for everyone!  Mine with my son was quick!

I'm aware of at least two reasons why it's preferable not to be induced: 1. I hear the contractions from the pitocin CAN be much more painful than natural contractions. So, if you are planning on an unmedicated birth, as I am, that is a reason to prefer not to be induced. If you're planning on an epidural, you may feel differently. 2. It's an intervention that can lead to more interventions. Kind of a domino effect.  I have encountered sources saying that inductions are more likely to end in c-section, though another commenter is saying they've seen the opposite. I simply don't have the data to back up either claim, but I would recommend researching that yourself before believing any of us. Another school of thought, which seems largely anecdotal is that you'll go into labor when the baby is ready. So if you haven't gone into labor the baby isn't ready to be born yet. Another thing to consider is that once you begin inducing, there's no going back. So if the first thing they try doesn't work to start labor, they have to keep trying more and more things. And the last thing would of course be a c-section. Again, I don't have solid stats on whether or not it's actually more common in induced deliveries.

I was induced on May 9, 2016, the first day, doctors see how you and the baby react to the oxytocin. Then doctors start the medicine that open the cervix, in my case my baby reacted well to the oxytocin, my body reacted well to the pain. During this process they tried to induced because it is for the well-being of your baby. The first day nothing happen, but they don't let you suffer, you may have a little discomfort, but it is something you can hold. The next day after 3 tablets to open the cervix, finally open to 4 cms, then the doctors asked you if you want epidural, which it is a personal choice, and then finally wait until it is completely open to 1o cms. Finally get ready to push and have you precious baby in your arms. Good luck😊 hope this is helpful!

Nothing.  I've had 4.  With pitocin.  Just delivered my 4th induction baby on Wednesday with no issues.  Don't listen to the horror stories...talk to your doctor and make an informed decision based on your doctor's assessment of your situation.

I think that inducing without a medical necessity is selfish. If you aren't over-due or have a medical condition that requires baby coming sooner for your safety and health and the baby's safety and health, then you shouldn't do it. Today's society is entirely too selfish and impatient. Choosing to induce because you're miserable being pregnant, you're tired of being pregnant, you're too impatient to wait for your baby to come on their time, or whatever non-medical reason you choose is ridiculously selfish.

If you have Netflix please watch "the business of being born" it will explain everything about being induced to you I promise. But pretty much you don't want to be induced unless is very necessary like your almost 42 weeks or you or baby aren't doing too good. The drug they use to induce makes your contractions stronger, longer snd closet together. Which means higher chances that you will need an epidural way sooner which means higher chances of your labor slowing down and higher chances of you needing a c-section 👎🏼

I was induced with my now 14 year old son. I liked it, they told me what was happening before it did so I knew what to expect. I don't know if the meds make you hurt worse, because I've had 2 girls since, naturally and they hurt just the same. The pain is coming either way. I didn't have epidural with any of them, induced or not. If I don't go on my own before, I'm scheduled to be induced on Tuesday morning with my 4th. My only worries aren't about the induction part but that I think I have more jitters due to knowing when it's coming as opposed to going in labor on my own. Anticipation is awful lol

Pitocin is a synthetic hormone. It will trigger contractions that are stronger and in faster succession. This causes a higher risk of uterine rupture (even if you have never had a previous pregnancy or csection before) a lot of women also say that these stronger contractions are more painful. There's also no guarantee that it will make your labor progress quicker.

There's also some evidence showing that the synthetic hormone has negative effects on baby and can cause their heart rate to drop.
