"Better" time to initiate a breakup?

Breakups are tough no matter what. I've only initiated a breakup once before and it was disastrous, so I'm hoping to not repeat past mistakes. I still care deeply for him, don't want to hurt him more than necessary, but I feel we both need to move on.

My ex husband left me and announced he wanted a divorce Dec 8th. Beside ME being obviously upset, I got to listen to my mom go on and on about how "unbelievable" it was that he was just at their house for thanksgiving and they surprised him with a cake for his birthday. ?

I think it's best to break it off when you feel you are ready to move on, don't postpone it. Holidays are a bummer alone but at least there's also the support from family if he's down. And hey, no Christmas gifts! He should  thank you!

Trust ur gut! U r right in the throw of things and u can only know whats right for you! You know the answer already and you may just be having a hard time trusting yourself! No matter what u choose it will always be the right decision despite hurt feelings. Think about it this way..no time will ever be the perfect or right time. If you do it before or after thanksgiving only you know. Good luck!

I'd say before. If I were him I'd hate for family to ask about you on thanksgiving and say it's all good, then find out it's not. Family holidays are always a time where they grill you about who you're dating. Plus, don't drag out something that doesn't make you happy. Rather do it early to give each person a time to heal
