Anyone know the fine for not having heath insurance?

I have health insurance a friend of mine got kicked off hers thro work and hasn't had it for 2 months. Just wondering what the fee is for not having coverage. Does it varry by state? I live in MD if it does! Thanks

It's a stupid law IMO. If someone cannot afford insurance due to either their work not offering it, or it being sky high outrageous, but yet is denied government insurance, we shouldn't get "fined" for it. 
I'm paying out the ass for my insurance, but my children r covered so doesn't bother me.. but I would rather pay the fine if I didn't have children.. would be cheaper.
& the Obama healthcare is garbage.. our country is doomed.

I think it's 1% of your income or a flat fee, which ever is less?
