Low platelet count?

I'm 29 +3 and I had bloodwork done a week ago that came back all good minute saying my platelets were low. Supposed to be between 150-300 but mine were 122. Anyone else had this? I got worried reading that if they get too low, I would have to have a transfusion!

I had HELLP syndrome. It's preeclampsia with a low platelet count. You should ask your doctor about it and beware of the symptoms. My liver does not enjoy pregnancy so I had HELLP with my last and Hypermesis with this one. You should look into particular diets to help your liver during pregnancy. When I did, my Hypermesis settled down to where I could actually drive myself.

Hey I've suffered with Itp (low platelets) since the age of 12 and have had 2 kids and on my third. I'm not gonna say it's easy as its hard with transfusions and meds. 122 count is pretty good considering and safe to deliver. Sometimes women have low platelets in pregnancy and it fixes itself after delivery. 2 weeks ago I had a count of 12 , honestly try not to worry. The Drs will take good care of you.

The same thing happened to me. I would definitely avoid googling things (lots on worst case scenarios out there that freaked me out) and make sure your dr is monitoring it.

My friend who is an OB assured me that if the nurse said not to worry (which is what I was told), my low platelets may just be that my blood is diluted (increased red cell production, but not platelets), which is ok and will return to normal after the birth. She said low platelets are a very serious problem if they drop very low, but that is generally not the case and those issues usually come later in 3rd trimester (this also happened to me at 29 weeks).

But that's all I know, since my next appt isn't for another week. I'm just trying not to worry and know I'll report any weird symptoms if they come up, just in case. Hope that helps!

Please ask your doctor about hellp syndrome.  I was diagnosed with it last month and delivered at 21w6d.  My platelets dropped so quickly within hours.  I was unable to get an epidural and they had started talking about the possibility to need transfusions if they continued to drop too low.

This happened to me with my first pregnancy and I was unable to get an epidural. My doctor has been taking my blood work regularly this time around and my platelets are doing okay so far. Good luck
