More power to you if you choose to, but I could never have taken that away from my husband. I feel like it would be emasculating to (most) guys.

I wouldn't have thought about it before I met my husband. We had a talk one day, early in our relationship about how he wished men had something like that, so they could feel special and surprised. So, a few months after we moved in together, I proposed to him.

My mom kind of proposed to my dad. She said "i booked the church, are you showing up or not?" 
They've been married37 years.

I kind of did after he had already proposed to me. It was just for fun but I asked him and got him a ring :) he really enjoyed it! I'm all for it as long as you're both in it.

I'm likely going to be the one to propose and we have decided he is taking my last name, so why not?

In my opinion, proposals are altogether silly and outdated. Marriage is a grown up decision that should be discussed and agreed on. Like buying a house. I don't believe in man popping a surprise question like that as if women are just waiting around for it.

But to each his own.
