Should my husband wear his ring or no?

My husband works at a grain company where he is an accountant. He mainly works at a desk on a computer or written files, however he will sometimes go work out in the grain bins (ginormous bins of grain such as wheat, corn and milo.) While he works in the bins, it's possible for his ring to get lost and honestly never seen again.

Am I ridiculous for being upset that he just doesn't wear his ring at all? Not even at home? Why couldn't he wear it to work and only take it off when he goes to bins? Leaving it at home means he goes to lunch, the bank, the post office, etc. on a daily basis with no ring on.

We live in a small town where all it takes is one person seeing him without a ring and starting a rumor to ruin our year. (Yes, that's really how it works in small town, Texas.)
