Who should pay?

Since I've been with my boyfriend I've paid majority of the time. We went to the movies, and when it came to the total he turns around and sticks out his hand (for me to give him my card). I've paid majority of the time for food & gas. I only recall, him buying me food several times.

With my boyfriend it's about 50/50. If we go out to a more expensive restaurant we usually pay our own way (we're both basically broke university students). But when we go to a movie, coffee or a less expensive place then one person pays. He's usually really quick to hand over his card so I'll usually say I'll get the bill before it comes. We don't keep track of who pays or how much the other pays.

Your boyfriend needs a reality check. To actually hold out his hand for your card is disgusting. That's just so rude! You're not an ATM and he shouldn't treat you that way. If he's tight on money then you guys need to have a conversation about that and maybe not go out so often. You should be splitting the bill or switching off paying. Having one person pay all the time is not fair or right. Neither the guy nor girl should be expected to pick up the bill every time.

My husband and I have always paid 50/50. Sometimes I pay, sometimes he pays. Usually when it's food though, I pay since I'm typically the only one hungry. But he pays his fair share with other things like gas and buying me things at the store. You should be spoiling each other, not one of you just paying for everything.

Seriously? He sounds like a douche. I personally don't like people paying for me, I enjoy doing it myself but it's common courtesy for him to at least offer to pay for himself. Even my best friend who's a broke college student ALWAYS pays when we go out as friends, he won't even let me reach for my wallet, he doesn't even care that he's broke, he does it because he thinks it's rude if he doesn't.

My relationship is old school. I like being paid for and he likes to pay for me. It also depends. When we do minor dinners like Chipotle, I'll gladly pay. But if we're going to a nice dinner, he pays.

I think that each person should spoil each other equally in a relationship. I haven't really had the chance to spoil my boyfriend yet because I just got my first job and haven't gotten my pay yet. But once I have money, I'm gonna spoil the crap out of him. He's always spoiled me and I've felt bad because I couldn't do the same for him. But now it'll be different ☺️

When I was with my ex, as far as who paid for dates, we usually said whoever came up with the idea for the date had to pay. (I.e. He decided to take me to see a movie, he paid for tickets, snacks, etc.)
