Who has BV knowledge?

Forgive my ignorance here... I got an iud and let my boyfriend cum in me for the first time. I was lazy and didn't pee afterwards, and didn't know the cum would come back out, so it was sitting in me for a while. Later, my vagina REEKED of fish and I had a lot of white discharge (which may have been semen). 3 days later the smell is much less pungent but still there. From what I've read here, it looks like it could be BV.

My question is: how serious is BV? And how urgent is it that I see a gyno? Is it like a UTI where you can chug cranberry juice for a few days and flush it out?

BV is a bacterial infection, basically an overgrowth of "bad" bacteria that is naturally found in the vagina. It's unlikely to go away on its own unless you get an antibiotic from a doctor. It's not a threat in that it's not contagious and won't cause you serious damage, but it won't get better, and is often accompanied by pain, itchiness and the foul odor you described.

You can try the whole eat yogurt and take a probiotic and try the rephresh over the counter stuff to try to get your good bacteria to win the battle, but honestly, it's just easier to go get some antibiotics.
