Exclusive pumping Mom's! How long did you pump for?

My son was in the NICU and now that he is home I am having a really hard time keeping up with pumping and having to soul search to decide what I can do. I know it would be best for his immune system to keep get breast milk but I'm already having to supplement! What are your secrets for long-term pumping? Did any of you start breastfeeding after exclusively pumping? Help!

I haven't been in your situation, but in know it's def possible to latch your child and start breastfeeding. Might take a few days or weeks to get a good flow or it might happen right away! Give it a try, and contact a lactation consultant for help! Pumping is the worst i hear ya!

I've been pumping exclusively since week 8. Feeding directly was never really for me. My son takes a bottle much faster than I could let down.

I tried mothers milk but hated it. --fennel and black licorice-- EWWW!

The biggest thing I've noticed that affects my supply is hydration. I try to drink 100+ oz of water every day. A good day 120-140oz. When I do that I can get out 14oz in the morning, and 6-8oz each additional pump. (5X a day total)   My son is 4 months now and be takes 27-35 oz of milk a day-- leaving me able to store 1-2 bags a day I case I dry out.

So my advice? HYDRATE!!!!!!!!

I did both, but I felt more comfortable pumping. I gave my first child breast milk up to 4 months of age. Try drinking 'fenugreek' vitamins, it is said to build up milk supply. Also, try 'mothers milk tea'. I have yet to try them but heard really good things. I will be trying them with baby #2. Hope this helps, and good luck!
