Car seat controversy

Al

Alysha • SAHM of 3!! Never a dull moment in my house:)

Long post sorry

My kids are 10, 9 and 6. The older two are still in backless boosters, and 6 yr old in a harness. I am constantly being told by family, friends and some strangers that my oldest two shouldn't be in boosters and I'm sick of hearing about it.

The law in my state says they don't have to be in a car seat after 8, but it's recommended to keep them in one until 4'9". I'm going by the recommendation not law. My youngest is in the harness because my middle seat doesn't have a should belt, so no booster can go there.

My questions are why do ppl think I'm wrong for them being in car seats? How old/big were your kids when you quit using one and why? How do I nicely deal with these ppl who have a problem without flying off the handle again?

My son was rear facing until 3.5, and in a car seat until 6 because he's small. He'll be in a booster until he grows out off it. I'm going to do whatever it takes to make him as safe as possible. Anyone who doesn't like it can make different choices with their kid and shut up about mine.

4'9, my daughter just turned 10 and she still has her backless booster. Screw then, rather have my daughter safe. My younger ones have the booster with the back. I have an 8yr old who is already 4'11 and he was no seat. You're doing your job monma, just tell them to back off, its their life over their input. Simple as that.

just tell them you value your kids life over their opinions. they can get mad all they want but 4'9 is the magic number. kids are different, all kids ages 8 and over are not created equal. just look at my kids, my duaghter is 10 and my son 8 he's taller than her, and my friend's 8yr old looks the same size as my 6yr old. i think they give you crap cuz you make them feel inadequate, maybe?

I agree with you. My oldest was out of a car seat by 7yrs old but he was very big! he was born big and grew fast. My youngest is still in a harness and he's 5, almost 6. But he is small for his age. Go by the height and weight recommendations and not age. Age does not protect your child in an accident, why put your trust in age? That makes no sense.

Just tell them you're concerned about safety more than their age. You'd be telling the truth and sometimes that's what people need to hear. No big deal ☺

I think a parent should do whatever they feel comfortable with, who cares if people don't like it, do you.For me, as a kid I was just fine back in the day without all of the crazy car seat laws and my kids are 6 and 8 and my six year old uses a booster seat sometimes.

I was very little when they quit using one with me, this was 1990. However with as many people I see snap chatting and driving, keep your kids as buckled in as possible.

People baffle me. What problem could there be with you being safer?????????The thing I dread the most about having this baby is people with their head up their ass telling me what's right for my family. I'm truly worried because I have the biggest mouth on the planet and I can't be held accountable for what comes out lol
