Names your child after their father?

Question

So how do you feel about naming your child after there father? If you're together or not. If you already have a child named after their father, what made you do that? Do you wish you didn't?

I would never do this because the child is a different person, they need their own identity. I don't like Jr, II, III, etc. just not my style. However I'm all about carrying on middle names. We're having a baby girl and her middle name will be Marie after my mom, and if we ever have a baby boy his middle name will be Michael after my husband and his dad. But every baby will have their own, individual, 1st name.

My dad is named after his dad and my brother is named after them as well but my dad has a different name then grandpa so not a true junior but everyone called him that, my brother is an actual junior well the second and we all called him bud.

None of them seem to mind or care, they are definitely individuals and have their own personalities.

My sister named her son Steven, his dad's name is Steve there was no issue their either.

I would hope no one assumes you are exactly like another person just based off your name...

I named my son after his father. My son is the 3rd. So my husband is the Jr and they are both named after his father who is now in heaven. I absolutely love it!! My son does too. He is proud that he carries the same name as his grandfather and father. They have different middle names though.

I will never because then the child isnt their own person so maybe a middle name. My dad was named after his dad and hated it because people got them mixed up so it forced him to go by his middle name.

I'm going to name my girl after her dad. Dads name is Raymon and I'm gonna name her Raeanne so they'll both be Ray/Rae just spelled differently

I'm struggling with this right now. My husband is a III and both Jr and Sr are still with us. We found out we're having a boy and it seems the whole family assumes this will be IV. Part of me wants to name him something else, maybe after my dad...but the other part of me sees the tradition and how important it is to them. My husband's grandpa is so excited...it's tough.

That is the tradition in DHs family. 
As someone who married into that... It sucks that anyone should make you feel you don't have a choice in naming your own son!

My husband is named after his dad Steven and he always enjoyed being named after him. I personally wouldn't want to be yelling one of their names and be like, "Steven!!! No the other Steven!!"  😂

I don't have a child named after anyone but my dad is a junior and HATES his name. His father abandoned him and his siblings (after getting their mom pregnant he would leave and idk why my grandmother kept getting pregnant by him). But it's a reminder of his Birth father who got remarried and took care of his other children and not the three he had prior to. I think it depends on the situation.

My son is a Jr. I love family names. His middle name goes way back in the family. We call my husband Chris and my son Christopher, so there's no confusion.
