After Birth Bath?

Question

I read an article saying you can't bathe after birth, longer if you have a C-Section. Do they mean like a bath? Or showering? And if so how long after! I've never heard of this!

They mean an immersion bath. I have showered within hours of both my births (vaginal) but been told no full baths until my bleeding stops, because the cervix stays open some and exposes the placental wound to bacteria. If you have stitches, you'll be given an Epsom salt sitz bath to use for soaking your stitches and vaginal area.

Hmmm. I've never heard this.  One of my friends midwife told her to bathe with Epsom (spelling) salts when she got home.  That's def a question I will be asking my ob,thanks for bringing it up I never thought of it

I've had two c section and my dr told me I couldn't bathe until after I stopped bleeding. Showering was fine. I had staples both times. Just be careful.

Showers are fine but episotomy, tears and csection wounds should be covered until theyve scabbed over and no fresh blood is coming from the wound. Baths are not a good idea for the first few weeks.

My son was born at night and I was exhausted but I was able to shower the next day. A few hours after delivery when the epidural wore off a nurse helped me to the bathroom and cleaned me up but the shower made me feel like an actual person again.

I wasn't allowed to shower for the duration of the 3 days I was in the hospital. I had a natural birth with no drugs or stitches.

I know for vaginal births, you can shower once you get back to your room if you'd like. But for c-sections, they usually decide depending on whether you have staples or stitches. And you usually have to wait a day depending on the Doctor.

They mean bathe, not showering. In fact they encourage a shower with your first 24 hours or so. 
A bath can be pretty germy and not so good for your incision. If it's your only option, you just have to make it short.

I had a C-section with my first, and I was told not to bathe, but showers were fine. Just had to take extra care to not hurt the incision.
