Midwife not doing her job?

Hi everyone, would love some opinions. I'm currently 19w with my second pregnancy. We decided to try a midwife after hearing some of the benefits. My current midwife has seen me twice since the very beginning. She has cancelled 2 appointments and hasn't once taken a fundal measurement OR checked my weight. I am now having issues with low hemoglobin and can't see the OB for another 4 weeks. My midwife never calls to check in and I feel like she isn't taking the time to get to know me. I've filled out 2 new applications today hoping to find another Midwife who is available. Would you do the same or just stick it out with the current Midwife? Part of me hates to try transferring at the half way mark but I also feel like she has been neglectful in my care.

I may be wrong but I don't think its their job to call and check in on you. I have 24hr # and an email thats answered within 48 hrs if I need anything. Sucks that shes cancelled but maybe its because other moms had issues or went into labour. I would feel better knowing my midwife will put the highest priority on the woman who needs it, as I one day I may be that higher propriety. Just some perspective hope you figure out whats best for you and the baby.

I don't know if you are in the US or not but I see a midwife and I have the same number of appointments as ladies with a regular OB - once a month for awhile then twice a month then once a week at the end. I also went to the regular OB for an ultrasound at 20 weeks since our Midwife doesn't have the technology for such they schedule it with the OB. If you don't feel comfortable I would definitely switch.

I have a midwife and go every 4-6weeks to appointments but so far my appointments have literally just been chatting and listening to baby's heart. I actually just met with a friend who birthed with a midwife and said she didn't like how hands off she was. I really just think it depends on the midwife or practice because I feel totally supported but my midwives and if I have any questions or concerns they are a phone call away. I would say interview new midwives and be honest with them about watt you are looking for and I'm sure you'll find someone you click with.

I had a midwife in my first pregnancy. I did not like it at all. I didnt see her again after the second visit.

I think you should feel comfortable with whoever you see.

I don't have a midwife (I really really wanted one), but you have to remember that she is one person with many clients. My guess is she has to cancel due to births (unless of course she says otherwise). If you don't feel comfortable, I say switch! Better now than later.....
