Anyone else NOT want a bunch of gender-specific stuff??
If/when we find out the gender of our kiddo, I don't want anyone to know! I grew up with a pink room and dresses that I HATED. I preferred Ninja Turtles and tree-climbing to Barbies and tea parties (for the record, I'm still a tomboy at heart but do enjoy lipstick once every few months -- it's like a secret weapon then). I would never force my child - boy or girl - to adopt my preferences, instead I want to provide a variety of clothes and toys for them to choose from. I feel like gender stereotypes can be extremely damaging (emphasizing prettiness for girls and toughness for boys), and I'd rather provide a safe space for my kid away from all of those expectations. Am I alone in feeling this way?
