Does 1 day really make a difference?

So I took a hpt on 20th and got bfn...but I was also only 8dpo. So glow is saying ok to test as of today...does a day really make a difference in results? Feeling kind of discouraged but I don't feel like af is on the way nor do I feel any early preggo symptoms...
