Calling off for work

LaVonna
I've worked at home depot for just about 4 years now and I haven't had the best experience with the company or management I can say. It's been a very stressful and overall annoying experience but it's put money in my pockets. When I found out I was pregnant and gave the managers my doctors note with the doctors require accommodations it took them 4 months to actually file it and send it to HR corporate office like they should have. It was only after I called corporate because I'd requested to be moved from the receiving warehouse where I was still handling hazmat materials and lifting heavy boxes every day. Let's just say I really dislike my job even more since in pregnant, however, I want to try to stick it out until my scheduled LOA. I know that alot of mom's get sick and I've actually been lucky to not get so sick so much just the drained sick feeling I suppose. I've called out a good amount of times I won't lie but I feel really bad when I do like I'm pissing them off even more and asking for sympathy. The other women there who've been pregnant always tell me it's okay it's expected and my friends and family tell me that same. Is it bad to call out because I'm not feeling good or I really just do not have the energy to deal with the stressful environment?

If you call out of work enough times they can fire you, just keep that in mind. I'm not sure where you are so I'm not sure what the actual amount is however I would be careful. Unless you have a doctors notes every time they can use it against you. I would be open with your supervisor if you want to keep your job. Just be honest with what's going on and cover your butt with doctors notes and documentation. That way if they do fire you and you feel it was unjust you will have the evidence you need to take them to court for lost wages.

I worked for Home Depot for a month and a half I'd say. I found out I was pregnant and having complications had to call into work cause I had to go to the ER twice. They didn't want to accept my ER excuses. They gave me the option of resigning or not calling in anymore. Next day after a 9 hr shift I was bleeding so I had to quit.

Well if you aren't showing you don't have to tell them you're pregnant. There is alot of discrimination but try to look for jobs that don't require heavy lifting. I'm 4 months and still not really showing.

I worked for the Home Depot for 2 yrs and recently quit bc I'm pregnant and couldn't handle the stress I was getting unhealthy sick. I felt I was calling out too much.. You can ask for an LOA for a week or how ever long you need just let them know what's going on with you (if you don't want to lose your position)

I had to call off of work alot when I started to get sick. I worked very early in the morning when it was at its worst so it was especially difficult. They understood but at the same time they felt inconvenienced. I quit a month into feeling sick because it was a very stressful and negative work environment. I went back to work when I could actually start eating again and it's a nighttime job so it's alot better for me. If you need to find something that works better for you I encourage you to do it. Stress is not good for the baby, and it doesn't seem like your bosses were to concerned about your pregnancy.

I've wanted to get a better job but I'm not sure who will Hire me right now knowing I can't do alot. they act like they care sometimes but still ask me to do things I'm not supposed to like pick up heavy boxes or even go cover a lunch for tool rental which the area is consumed in chemicals and fuel smells. there were 2 other women pregnant who worked there and they both left one quit and the other went on loa at 6 months instead of the 8 months
