What's the difference?

What's the difference between being in a relationship and being married? I don't see the difference. People get married and they say there gonna be together forever and then years later they file a divorce and in a relationship you say your going to stay together forever then break up.

Funny, I was just having this conversation with my hubby today. Now that we are married (just over a year) I feel secure & honoured about being his wife & its an amazing feeling knowing he is my husband. I'm proud of us.

Well there's all sorts of legal reasons, for us we were thinking about making sure I would be financially stable if he died (death in service benefit his company pays out), the house that we own. But it's also such a lovely thing to gather all your loved ones together and say "this is it, me and him/her forever, we think that's wonderful let's celebrate" and it is a really wonderful day, all day everyone is just so happy and celebrating. Obviously no one goes into marriage planning on breaking up but we've been through a lot and we've realised whatever the problem is, it's better to solve it together l.

We were together 12 years and got married this year. We still have our mortgage, we still have our princess, and I still have to wash his jocks.... So, no difference. BUT I do feel better knowing we are married now.

Marriage used to mean something but society has just made it into something so meaningless :( it's supposed to be that step where you commit to each other and literally become one when you have sex for the first time together. It's so special when you can say that you are the only one who has ever seen your spouse naked and they you. It's when you make those promises to be their partner for life and never give up on that. Divorce shouldn't ever even be joked about or brought up, unless in extreme situations like abuse. Marriage is supposed to be sacred and holy, but this world made it useless. My husband and I are keeping it real and hope to pass on the real meaning of a happy marriage to our kids.

Seriously.... I don't really see a difference either other than you get a ring, called a wide and get to say your a married spouse.

No difference, but with taxes and ease in society. My husband and I will be together 8 years next March and just decided to elope on vacation this September. We only did it to make things easier for the baby we were TTC. Absolutely nothing changed after marriage. In fact, I think we are more confident in our relationship than most newlyweds. People talk about divorces happening on the 7-year-itch. We married on the 7th year. :-)

There is no difference..a relationship is when one party is connecting to another party and that looks like anything. Once the connection is gone then there is no relationship. Marriage is a type of relationship and i believe legal marriage is simpy different for the legal benefits. Im married not legally to a woman and there is nothing different about our relationship except the legal aspect

There are a lot of reasons people get married. My husband and I knew we wanted to be together forever But in the military you can't live together unless your married. They have to live on the ship/barracks. So basically if I wanted to be able to live with him and follow him we HAD to be married. of course I love him and do not regret it one bit, BUT there were reasons as to why we did it when we did.
