Lookinng for roommate advice

My freshman year of college i had 2 roommates. We were friends at first but mid way they became close and i was the third wheel and got upset amd felt left out. I hated being home and avoided it at all costs. Well I am going to a new school now and know no one. I have the choice to have one or two roommates. A double costs $600 a month and triple is $500. If i go with the triple i can save 1000 a year (10 months) i just don't want to have the same issue i did last year. Has anyone experienced this?? I hoping to meet lots of new people also.
