VBAC?

Anyone considering a vbac or have a previous vbac experience? Would love some information and advice on personal experience!

I have had one successful vbac and will be trying for another in November. It went better than I expected. Doctor did not wish for me to go much past due date As baby could get too big and a section would be more likely. So I was induced at 40+1. Started pitocin low dose at 8:20am, she said she would turn it up every 15 minutes. But sometimes she would let it stay at what it was if it seemed to be working well because the less pitocin needed the better. She said she didn't want my contractions more than 1 1/2-2 min apart because every 30 sec to a minute could put to much stress on the uterus and have an increased rupture risk. So they got to about 1 1/2 min apart and she turned it off because by this point I was contracting on my own. By noon I was at a 2, the doctor came in to check me and said she had to go back to the office but she'd be back to check me at 5 unless something changed quicker. So at 3:30 I asked the nurse to check me because my contractions were stronger it seemed. I was then at a 4. Doctor came in at 5, I was at a 5. By 7 I was fully dilated to a 10 and began pushing. Baby was born by 7:25. Very thankful for how quick and great it went. And as for reason of previous section, just was not dilating past a 4 for over 8 hours. So they decided a section would be best. Found out he was crooked in the birthing canal and wouldn't have came out on his own anyways.

I've had 2 successful vbacs and going for my 3rd in November :) a lot depends on the reason for your section..I had preeclampsia and HELLP so I never labored before the section which made the first vbac feel like first time labor = longer. We hired a doula and I stayed home to labor as long as possible. This helps your success rate tremendously.  Also, our hospital had an awesome vbac rate and positive/supportive staff-no one told me I should just go for the repeat section. They required an IV and full time fetal monitoring which meant no water birth (they don't have a water proof monitor) and a bit of an annoying arrival-I was ready to push and they were fussing with the IV. My second was an induction (baby was wrapped in cord in 3 places)-there are also some restrictions here too but after 3 rounds of failed pitocin as soon as they broke my water,  baby came in 45 minutes :) in my research, a vbac felt like less risk. I kept my goals in mind and let go of some things in order to get there (put up with an IV, internal fetal monitoring and fewer birthing options). And by the way, if no one has told you this yet-your scar might hurt as baby grows or if you sneeze-ha! I'm 8 years past the section and it still does. Totally normal and you're not tearing your scar. :) best wishes.

You will be considered a high risk patient and will (should) be monitored very closely. They should run pitocin quite conservatively on you if it's needed. Take your doctors input and recommendations  very seriously as your safety and that of your baby is of utmost importance :) best of luck with your delivery!!
