Low sperm count & Abnormal Morphology. Help?

Question

So this month will mark my husband and I ttc for a year.. Since we were getting close and I already had an appointment with my doctor he set up for testing. He recently did a laparoscopy on me and found everything to be great! However for my husband we did not get results we were hoping to hear. He told us the my husband had a low sperm count and out of what was there well there was hardly any with the correct morphology. We are now waiting to see a urologist. My doctor said to us that ivf is likely in our future.. I did some research because unfortunately I'm so anxious.. I found that the low count isn't too concerning that it was easy enough to find solutions to but that the abnormal morphology is not fixable and ivf is the only answer.. Does any one know how true that is? Or have anything that may help us know where we're headed as we wait to see specialists? Thank you for reading and for any help you may be able to give! ❤️

Hello, my husband and I have been Ttc for about 16 months, and just had results he has a very low sperm count (4million) and all sperm are abnormal 😢 . Dr has asked him to provide another sample to compare,and if the same then next step is urologist.I'm not sure what that involves as such, but we weren't expecting this. I'm also having to be retested for my progesterone levels as they're borderline. Is this the beginning of a long journey ahead?  Would this involve IVF or ICSI ? Which is better, I'm not 100% on how they work tbh. It saddens me everytime I'm just sitting with time to think 😔  X

Hi Caitlyn. I had a very similar experience to Maria-- my husband had 0-1% morphology and the urologist found a varicocele too. He had the surgery almost a year ago, and if there was any improvement it was very slight. Our last SA he was at 2%.

But IVF with ICSI is supposed to overcome the morphology problem and I can say, we have had great fertilization rates with that process. I would highly recommend it if it is within your budget.

Hi Caitlyn, I know how devastating the news is. I've been there. We have been tcc for 2.5 years and at the 1 year mark found out my husband has low morphology 1%. He went to urologist and they found a veriocele which is basically an enlarged vein that lets blood into testicles causing abnormal Sperm morphology. He had s surgery to correct that and a year later we retested and found nothing had improved. He's been on every vitamin you can think of, changed his life style eating healthier and drinking less. Nothing changed. We did 5 failed iui's and now this month doing IVF. It took me 2.5 years to get here to that decision but I wasn't ready before. Now that we tried everything IVF was our last resort. I am currently on injectibles and having egg removal surgery next week. We are hopeful and trying to stay positive that this will work. Let me know if you have any questions.
