I'm due on Thursday was just checked today for my first time... Found out I'm between 2-3 cm and completely thinned... Only thing is my doctor is going on vacation in 2 days... Then I'll either see a different doctor or get induced at 41 1/2 weeks... Anyone have any tips to get this ball rolling? Or anyone in the same boat

Is this your first? Honestly don't let your doc possibly being out of town stress you out. I know there is a huge level of comfort having your doc be the one that delivers your baby BUT they really don't do that much anyway leading up to birth...the nurses do. I saw two other docs within the same practice while I was in labor with my 1st. It wasn't a big deal as I had already attached on to the nurses as my comforters in addition to my husband. Docs will appear early on, if there are concerns and then when it's crowning time. I'm sure this is different for everyone based on so many variables but, we started pushing with just a nurse and my husband in the room. The nurses monitored, checked cervix, stretched, watched meds, literally did everything where as doc was just there to seal the deal at the end.

Yes that is true. It is your body and your choices. You will LOVE your nurses I'm sure. If a doctor says you MUST do something with a sense of urgency, I'd listen though. They know what's best and will back off it isn't medically necessary but otherwise let them take care of you.

Yes this is my first.... Thanks for the words of wisdom I'm just worried I'm going to get pressured into something I don't want but my husband reassured me they can't do anything I don't want them too

I would personally have my hospital bag and car seat ready, take a nice walk and get things at home in place, take a warm bath, and more than likely you'll be in l&d soon. Hopefully before your doctor becomes unavailable in your case, but if you happen to go in and have another doctor, you probably won't care once you are in labor. ;)

You are welcome. I've thought about using a birthing ball. Is it the same as an exercise ball? I need to get into shape after my baby.

I have had some cramping on/off for over a week and lost my mucous plug... Just went to the bathroom and there was some bloody discharge but I'm not sure if that's just from being checked today

I had my first baby last May. My doc went out of town a week before my due date, and of course I went into labor. So, a different doc delivered my baby.  Although, sentimentally, I wish he would've been there because he delivered me and all of my siblings and was retiring soon after my due date, in terms of delivery, it wasn't a big deal. The other doc was a sweet younger woman, and I liked her so much that when I got pregnant with baby #2 4 months later, I chose her since my old doc retired. Ironically enough, I'm 37.5 weeks now, 2cm and 70% effaced, and now SHE is out of town until Sunday. Just my luck haha.
