Do you think teachers should still have the privilege to punish kids by spanking them?

I had a long debate with a lady the other day that ended up getting a little intense considering our views are different. She thinks that teachers should still have the permission to give a student an ass best in when needed. Me on the other hand if be damned if anyone other than myself baby's father or anyone I did not give person to, beat my kid. I did understand her points stating its the schools responsibility after you drop the student off, and if there would be more discipline then kids wouldn't be acting out doing what their doing. But the way I see it, is the kids behave the way the parents do. It reflects on their home life. If parents would be the parents they're suppose to be, their children wouldn't be so bad. But that's just my opinion. So what's yours?
