Nope, one of the best tips I got was to use a cheap clock radio set to an easy listening station (on very quietly of course) that way baby gets used to sleeping while there's music playing / people talking and it makes it much easier to get them to sleep while you're out and about 😊 
I only use it during the day, much easier to have everything quiet at night time.

I actually read a few studies linking sound machines to partial deafness at different decibels when used for infants. Definitely not using them here.

My daughter slept better with the heartbeat sounds. She is 15 months now and has a fan going while she sleeps. I plan on using sound machine for baby #2 as well.

Sound soothers are definitely not a necessity but they can be SO helpful. I got one bc my apartment is very old and tiny so I'm hoping it'll help drain out the noise of the creaky floors and doors while bub is asleep.

We got a marpac Dohm white noise machine. I think other sound machines that try to be a babbling brook or heart beat etc are annoying but I know my husband and I sleep better w a fan running for the white noise. We'll see when the baby gets here if she likes it but if she doesn't we're still keeping it for ourselves.

Your baby is in your belly all the time with you, they hear everything and you speaking.  You don't need to make their life out of the womb quiet, they're use to the noise.

Oh God yes. It's the first thing I recommend to friends it their babies are screaming and not sleeping through the night. The white noise is similar to them being in the womb and helps most kids sleep better.
