Breaking up....

Me and my boyfriend of 4 years broke up yesterday.. As he puts it we are taking a break. He won't answer my calls barely text back and hasent even came home. I know he is going through some emotional stuff but that don't mean we have to break up... I mean we live together we have two dogs together.. He says he feels like he's 45 with two kids and he wants to be young and without responsibility.. I told him I'm young too and it's hard on me too but he won't listen. He won't even talk to me about it. I'm so heart broken I have no idea how to deal right now. I'm scared he's gonna do something that hurts our relationship for good. I feel so stupid and silly to actually think he was gonna ask me to marry him. We do everything together he's my best friend.
