X-rays at the dentist while pregnant..?

I'm currently 16w3d, and my front tooth cracked due to dental work I had done about 3 months ago. They did a filling in the back of the tooth and it was so deep that it ended up cracking the front of my tooth. It took until now that a chunk finally fell out.. They said they need to do a route canal eventually and something about a cap; they just filled and fixed it for now though. They told me I needed a X-ray done, I was hesitant but they insisted and told me it was perfectly safe for the baby and I. They only took ONE X-ray, they put two aprons on me and put it on the lowest radiation and told me everything will be fine. I'm kind of freaking out and had a tummy ache after.. (probably my mind and anxiety).. I'm so paranoid. Can someone reassure me that everything will be ok and give me positive stories that relate? I can really use it because I'm so scared and nervous to lose my baby.. I took the dentists word though. Thank you!

An X-Ray is an extremely small amount of radiation, and it only last .25 milliseconds. There is virtually zero exposure. If you were to use a radiation badge to capture how much you were exposed to, it would show up as non detectable because the amount is so low.

Source: I specialize in radiation and working pregnant female hazard assessments at my job. We have pregnant workers who perform X-rays as their primary duty throughout their whole pregnancy.

You'll be okay i promise. The stomach ache was all just nerves and your thoughts getting to you. There is so little radiation in X-rays nowadays that you could have gotten 10 done and still be fine especially with two X-ray jackets on! :)

My dad is a (retired) radiologist. They wanted to do an abdominal x-Ray on me when I was 8 weeks pregnant. He said it was fine as long as they covered up my pelvis with the lead aprons really well. I didn't end up getting one (went to the endoscopy lab instead) but the fact that he said it was ok should be reassuring to you! I've heard dental x-rays are safe during pregancy too because they are very low radiation and high away from the pelvis. I'm sure your baby will be just fine :)

I work in radiology. You are perfectly fine. You were shielded, dental x-rays use very low radiation and you are far enough along in your pregnancy that the risk is relatively low. You get more radiation on a one way flight than you would ever get from a basic xray. Don't stress it and enjoy your pregnancy.

I fell when I was 12 weeks and hurt my wrist. The ER wanted to take an X-ray of just my wrist held away from my body. They doubled up on the aprons but I started second guessing it and asked if I really needed to have it done. The techs both said that if they were pregnant they wouldn't do it. I didn't end up getting an X-ray but it wasn't my mouth either. I'm sure the dr wouldn't do it if it wasn't ok.

Believe I was 6 months and with my daughter I was less than that n she fine she be 12 this yr u were covered it will be ok only be conserned if u werent
