How long do you let your baby cry?

I'm not big on "crying it out" but sometimes it's necessary when you've done everything. What's the longest you've let baby cry for?

Five, ten minutes tops. I'm not big on the crying it out either but it really helps with their coping mechanism as the get older. They don't really on mommy so much and can cope on their own.

Never unless my hands are full. I have three kids and never let them cry. It's never necessary in my opinion. My older boys are very independent and loving and awesome sleepers and I never let them cry. Instead I focus on teaching them good habits for healthy sleep. The No Cry Sleep Solution has some good tips. My job as a parent is their full time 24/7 teacher, not a bully. There are other ways to teach your child sleep that don't break trust in your always being there for them.

I let mine cry for a few minutes - 10 tops. Usually she only cries a little and I give her a binkie and she's good to go. But when she's super fussy and won't stop crying for anything, that's when I let her cry for a little bit. Usually she cries a few minutes and then falls asleep. If she's obviously not going to self soothe then I pick her up. It all just depends on the situation. The longest she's cried has always been while in the car on a long drive. At that point there's just not much you can do.
