Breastfeeding 3 week old
In the early weeks of breast feeding my newborn, I would have to pump and bottle feed to build my supply because my little one had trouble latching. Well, that worked well. She gained back her birth weight plus 2 oz. within a week, and at her 2-week appointment had gained an additional 5 oz. She is now 3 weeks, and while I have not weighed her, I can tell she is gaining weight steadily based on how her diapers for and how her face is filling out. It should also be noted that my LO has become much better at nursing and is only bottle fed once or twice a day by dad when mom needs to sleep. She will let us know she is hungry with all the typical tell tale signs. During the day lately she has been much more alert and awake- demanding to be fed frequently! Sometimes she just wants a snack, sometimes she nurses for close to an hour. I'm not concerned about her getting too little to eat. What I am concerned about is how long I can let her sleep. I know that within the first couple of weeks it is important to wake your baby for feedings 2-3 hrs apart, and no longer than 4 overnight. Now that she is over 3 weeks, is it okay to just let her sleep if she wants to? Is it dangerous to let her sleep too long? She has been very alert and active/ feeding a ton throughout the day and night... So is it okay to let her have a longer stretch of sleep at some point during a 24 hr period?
