Can they fire me?,

I just have a huge concern. I just started a new job as I found out that I was pregnant... I'm afraid they could fire me for this? Does the Paternity Act protect me or no? I live in Illinois and I love my new job but afraid I might have to lose it..

They cannot fire you for being pregnant, because that is discrimination. I just found out on 11/17 I was pregnant also and got hired on at a doctors office as a MA. & I told them about me being pregnant and if it was going to affect me being hired and working and they said no because its discrimination. But I also live in WV. I wouldn't tell them until you start showing. That way you're there for awhile. Everything will be okay. :)

Even if you were pregnant before you applied for the job, you do not have to tell them that you are. Congrats and good luck!

Thank you! I know of a girl that was "let go" at a local business because she was pregnant.. I was pretty sure that was illegal but she said the company told her she hadn't been There long enough to qualify for maternity leave.

Well I know that some states (including the one I live in) are "at-will" states so they can fire you for anything like "you're not a good fit" "we're over staffed" and other things like that.
