How would you respond

I started seeing this guy. We were both on the same page both looking for a lasting relationship. He's was sweet and funny and charming.

We weren't a couple but we were seeing each other for almost 3 months consistently!

Anyways so I didn't hear from him at all for about a week. So I fired off a text just saying hope you're well hope we can hang out soon.

I got a reply that said "You don't deserve this, I promise I'm not an asshole but honestly I've been avoiding you because I just met this girl and I have feelings for her."

I know we weren't together obviously but I was a little hurt and embarrassed that allowed my self to be led on by this guy. I replied with "okay I hope it works out with you guys" I also asked him to delete my number. He said he wanted to be friends and I responded with I have to be able to trust my friends and I don't trust you.

So today (almost 1.5 weeks later) I get a "heyy"

I said I asked you to delete my number. He was like I just want to talk and I was like I don't want to speak with you. He then said it didn't work out with her. I said Oh well sucks to be you. Hope you learned something.

Now he wants to start over with me and take me out to a fancy dinner and make it up to me.
