IVF- Assisted hatching and ICSI

How many people have done either assisted hatching or ICSI or both? Any experience to share? I don't know how common it is and can't decide if we should do it given extra risks but then again a cycle with no fertilized eggs would be horrible. Just doing all the consents and making plan to do our first IVF. Dr made it sound like its our choice but he would recommend at least the ICSI. Thanks
